Campfire Hotel Bend: 5 Reasons To Love Your Stay

Street exterior view of Campfire Hotel

Campfire Hotel in Bend, Oregon, caught my photographer’s eye with bright orange décor. Then a bride in a hot dog costume stole the show. After 30-plus years as a photographer and travel writer, including frequent Pacific Northwest visits, I look for local character and value. For couples, women, and fellow travelers over 50 planning a Bend getaway, here are five things I loved about this playful motor lodge, a handy base for exploring regional history and culture. Bring your camera. The orange has competition.

1. Kitschy Camp Style in Vibrant Orange at the Campfire Hotel Bend

The campfire in courtyard

The vintage camp theme gives this 100-room motor lodge a playful identity. As a photographer, I appreciate a strong color that gives a property a look I can remember.

The camp idea carries beyond the décor. A community fire pit gives guests a place to gather, while a pool and hot tub offer other ways to spend time between outings.

My favorite orange was the vintage trailer dedicated to the bride and her entourage. From the outside to the inside, it’s all about campfire tradition.

2. Front Desk Staff and Management Who Join the Fun

Camp Counselor Wendy Smith, the hotel manager, welcomed me in the lobby. When I joined the bachelorette party, Wendy served cocktails and kept the party fun and exciting.

From the bride dressing up as a hot dog to the guests celebrating with giant hot dog party props, everyone wanted me to take their photo. I stepped into my event photographer role and delivered memorable pictures of the fun.

Couples and friends who enjoy a hotel with a social streak may appreciate that spirit.

3. A Convenient Base for High Desert Adventures

Campfire Hotel, located in Bend’s Central District, near downtown, is perfect for travelers with a car. The hotel offers a base for outings south of town along U.S. Highway 97.

The High Desert Museum brings together the region’s wildlife, history, art, and cultures. Its changing and permanent exhibitions give you several ways to learn about the High Desert. Allow time to follow your own interests through the exhibits. During Raptors of the Desert Sky at the High Desert Museum, a vulture flew so low that its talons brushed my head.

Farther south along Highway 97, Lava Lands Visitor Center introduces Newberry National Volcanic Monument. The Trail of Molten Land and views toward Lava Butte offer another way to explore the region’s volcanic history. The visitor center and shuttle operate seasonally, so check their schedules before you plan your trip.

Sleet greeted me at Newberry National Volcanic Monument, so I stayed in my vehicle.

Don’t miss either of these destinations when you are in Bend.

4. Breakfast Burritos Before Your Adventures

Having Burrito Sunrise at the hotel makes breakfast a convenient stop before heading out.

The menu includes The Hog, with ham and bacon, and a meatless option called The Plain, with eggs, hash browns, beans, and cheese. You can also order your burrito as a bowl.

I ate my Plain burrito at a small lobby table, where I met a wedding photographer who recognized me from another resort assignment. We discussed the beauty of Central Oregon and Campfire Hotel’s affordability.

Check the truck’s current schedule before making it your breakfast plan.

5. A Short Walk to Craft Cocktails and International Cuisine

Dogwood at the Pine Shed exterior

A short walk from Campfire Hotel, Dogwood at the Pine Shed offers craft cocktails and international food carts in Bend’s Makers District.

Dogwood welcomes pet dogs on its outdoor patio and service animals indoors. During my visit, one dog sidled up to the bar.

I tried Dominican cuisine at The Dominican and spent time with owners Robert and Trisha De Los Santos.

They offer American-style burgers, but Robert told me most customers order traditional Dominican meats and sides.

Coming Soon to Campfire Hotel

According to an October 26, 2026, press release, UN/COMMON Cocktail Cafe plans to open inside Campfire Hotel in November 2026. Bartender Justin Fox plans to build on classic cocktails using unusual flavor combinations, house-made ingredients, and experimental techniques. The announcement also describes vintage-inspired décor and music on vinyl.

I didn’t need the complimentary earplugs in my room.

I would consider the Campfire Hotel for a return trip to Bend to try more good food and craft cocktails and explore more of the Makers District.

I visited during a hosted summer trip. All opinions are my own.
